5 Best VPN for TikTok [Bypass TikTok Ban] in Oct 2026

TikTok has become one of the most popular social media platforms, with millions of users creating and sharing videos every day. Its global reach has made it a cultural phenomenon, but not everyone has access to the app.

In several countries, such as India, Kyrgyzstan, Somalia, and Belgium, TikTok is restricted or banned, leaving users searching for ways to stay connected with the platform.

The US government has also taken strong action against TikTok, raising concerns about security and data privacy. This has led to attempts to restrict the app and even proposals for a nationwide ban. These measures create uncertainty for users who rely on TikTok for entertainment, creativity, or even income.

This is where VPNs play an important role. A VPN can mask your location, allowing you to bypass government or regional restrictions and continue using TikTok without interruptions. It also adds a layer of privacy and protection, making your online activity safer.

By choosing the right VPN, you can enjoy TikTok freely no matter where you are. However, not all VPNs work with TikTok. After a month of testing, we bring you the best TikTok VPNs that you can use right now to access the platform.

How We Selected the Best VPNs for TikTok

To find the best VPNs for TikTok, we began by reviewing leading VPN services that are known for reliability and speed. Since TikTok is a video-sharing platform where smooth streaming matters, we focused on providers that consistently deliver fast and stable connections.

We subscribed to each VPN and installed it across multiple devices, including an iPhone 11, an Android tablet, a Windows PC, and a MacBook. This helped us see how the VPNs performed on both mobile and desktop systems.

Our testing lasted for over a month, and we made sure to spend several days with each VPN to evaluate its real-world usability.

During the process, we ran a series of tests. These included speed checks to measure streaming quality, DNS and WebRTC leak tests to ensure privacy, and IP address tests to confirm that our location was properly hidden.

We also attempted to access TikTok when it was blocked on our office network, which allowed us to confirm whether the VPN could bypass restrictions.

On top of technical performance, we explored each VPN’s apps to judge ease of use. Features like server selection, connection stability, and mobile optimization were part of the criteria.

After collecting all the data, we compared the results and ranked the VPNs based on overall performance. The top five stood out for speed, security, and consistent access to TikTok – with Surfshark taking the lead.

How to Use a VPN with TikTok

Using a VPN with TikTok is straightforward, and you don’t need advanced technical skills. Here’s a simple guide to get started:

1. Choose a reliable VPN with fast speeds. We recommend Surfshark.
2. Download and install the VPN app on your smartphone.
3. Open the VPN app and log in with the details from your subscription.
4. Connect to a server in a country where TikTok is available, like the UK.
5. Open TikTok and start browsing.

Will TikTok Get Banned in the United States?

The possibility of a TikTok ban in the U.S. has been one of the most debated tech and political topics in recent years. In April 2024, President Joe Biden signed legislation requiring TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to either sell the app to a US or allied-based company by January 19, 2025, or face removal from the country.

If ByteDance failed to comply, TikTok would no longer be available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for US users. Internet service providers were also expected to block network access to the platform, effectively shutting it down nationwide.

ByteDance resisted the order, and just before the deadline, TikTok was briefly taken offline in the United States. The blackout lasted around 14 hours, making headlines as millions of users suddenly lost access.

The service was restored after former President Donald Trump issued an executive order temporarily postponing the ban. However, experts note this is not a permanent solution. An executive order cannot override legislation passed by Congress.

Unless ByteDance agrees to sell TikTok — something the company has repeatedly refused — the platform’s future in the US remains uncertain.

According to Statista, over 170 million Americans use TikTok monthly, making the stakes incredibly high both for creators and the broader social media economy.

For now, TikTok is still available to American users, but its long-term status depends on whether new legislation is passed or a suitable buyer steps in.

Where Is TikTok Banned?

While TikTok’s US status is still undecided, several countries have already banned or restricted the app:

India

In 2020, India banned TikTok along with more than 200 Chinese apps, citing national security and data privacy concerns. This decision affected an estimated 200 million TikTok users in the country.

China

Surprisingly, TikTok itself is not available in China, despite ByteDance being a Chinese company. Instead, Chinese users access Douyin, a similar platform that complies with strict domestic content regulations and censorship laws.

Afghanistan

The Taliban government banned TikTok and PUBG, claiming that both contained content that promoted “immorality” and distracted the youth.

Beyond outright bans, several Western nations have introduced partial restrictions. Government device bans have been enacted in countries such as:

• Australia
• The United Kingdom
• France
• The Netherlands
• Norway
• Belgium
• Denmark
• Canada
• New Zealand

In these countries, TikTok remains accessible to the general public but is prohibited on official devices used by public servants, citing cybersecurity and espionage risks.

Globally, TikTok’s availability continues to fluctuate depending on geopolitical tensions, privacy debates, and cybersecurity concerns. With over 1.5 billion monthly active users worldwide, the platform’s reach makes every new ban or restriction a significant event.

Why You Should Use a VPN with TikTok

When you created your TikTok account, you agreed to its data collection practices. A VPN cannot stop TikTok itself from gathering data you consented to.

What a VPN can do is shield you from other forms of tracking and monitoring that you may not be aware of. Here are some examples:

Data collection by internet service providers (ISPs)

In the US, ISPs are allowed to collect and sell user data, often based on browsing activity. An FTC report found that users are rarely given meaningful choices about how this data is handled.

By encrypting your online traffic, a reliable VPN like Surfshark prevents your ISP from monitoring or sharing your browsing history.

Risks on public Wi-Fi networks

When you connect to open Wi-Fi in places like airports or cafés, you don’t agree to any privacy terms. This makes it possible for hackers or even network operators to intercept sensitive details like passwords or financial information.

A VPN secures your connection, making your data unreadable to anyone on the same network.

Avoiding bandwidth throttling

ISPs often slow down internet speeds for certain activities, like streaming or long video sessions, especially if you use a lot of data. With a VPN, your traffic is encrypted, so your provider cannot identify TikTok usage or selectively throttle your connection.

Will Using a VPN Get You Banned on TikTok?

There is a possibility, but it’s not guaranteed. TikTok’s terms of service don’t directly forbid VPN usage. However, if the platform detects unusual activity linked to VPNs, it may temporarily restrict your account through a shadow ban.

A shadowban prevents your videos from appearing on the For You page or in hashtag search results, which can seriously affect creators looking to reach new audiences.

If you suspect you’ve been shadowbanned while using a VPN, the most effective step is to stop using it. Based on user reports, shadowbans usually fade after about two weeks.

To reduce your risk:

• Avoid posting adult content or promoting harmful challenges.
• Do not engage in harassment, spamming, or mass following/unfollowing.
• Steer clear of posting copyrighted content without permission.

Another helpful strategy is using a dedicated VPN IP address, which is assigned only to you. This makes your connection look more consistent and less suspicious compared to shared VPN servers.

For example, Surfshark offers dedicated IPs in more than 5 countries, which can lower the chance of triggering a shadowban.

Is It Legal to Use a VPN with TikTok?

Using a VPN with TikTok is generally legal in most countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and many parts of Europe. A VPN is simply a privacy tool that encrypts your internet traffic and hides your IP address.

However, legality can vary depending on where you live. Some countries, such as China, Russia, and North Korea, heavily regulate or ban the use of VPNs altogether.

In those regions, connecting to TikTok or any other app through a VPN could put you at risk of fines or other legal issues.

It’s also important to note that while using a VPN is legal, TikTok may restrict or limit accounts if unusual activity is detected. To stay safe, always check your country’s laws before using a VPN with TikTok.

Conclusion

TikTok is more than just an app. It is a platform that brings people together through creativity, trends, and entertainment. Bans and restrictions can limit access, but with a reliable VPN, users can overcome these barriers.

A VPN not only helps you unlock TikTok from anywhere but also protects your privacy while you use it.

If you want to keep enjoying TikTok without worrying about restrictions, the best solution is to use a trusted VPN like Surfshark. With the right choice, you can stay connected to the global TikTok community and enjoy a seamless experience.
